In case you missed it, Donald Trump has made good on one of his foundational campaign promises: “reciprocal tariffs” on our trading partners. These new tariffs are in addition to already-existing tariffs on products imported into the US.

This means that some countries like Brazil will be paying a whopping 50% in tariffs.

You don’t need to be an economist to see how increasing tariffs of 40% or 50% could slow our economy, increase prices, and decrease workers’ wages.

If you need proof of these effects: Howard Miller Furniture, based here in Western Michigan, announced last week that they’ll be closing their doors after 99 years in business – citing tariffs and supply chain disruptions as one of the reasons.

This is an incredibly short-sighted approach to trade and diplomacy – but that hasn’t stopped Republicans from mindlessly backing Trump anyway.

The only thing that Republicans will respond to is being voted out. We have to let them know that we won’t forget their inaction, and we WILL hold them accountable on election day. Will you add your name right now to pledge to vote out your Republican elected officials for failing to lead? [[link removed]]

Trump is throwing your paycheck, our economy, and our healthcare system to the wolves to serve his ego – Republicans like Bill Huizenga have been silent.

Southwest and West Michigan deserve better. Let Bill Huizenga know that we’re going to remember this in November. [[link removed]]
