Contributing to The American Prospect means supporting independent
journalism and original reporting. For 30 years, the Prospect has taken
on the challenge of investigating and analyzing under-reported stories,
breaking down the political news of the moment, and developing the
skills of young journalists, like myself, through the Kuttner Writing
Fellowship program.

As a Writing Fellow, my responsibility is to report the experiences of
people across the country who are affected by the actions of
politicians, lobbyists, and activists in Washington D.C.

Since starting at the Prospect, this has meant sharing the stories of
protesters and Dreamers

outside the Supreme Court while oral arguments over DACA are delivered
inside. During elections, I'm traveling to meet voters and bringing
their experiences at the ballot box to Prospect readers - such as in
Virginia's first election

since the state's gerrymandered districts were overturned. And
sometimes, it means breaking down a lighter subject, like the powerful
connection between politicians and popular celebrities

during campaign season.

Being a Writing Fellow at the Prospect has also allowed me to do
in-depth reporting about the dangers of voter suppression and voter
depression efforts in the 2020 primaries through a partnership with the
Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting. Since February, I've been
reporting on the voting laws and procedures, bringing stories from South
Carolina
;
Alabama
;
St. Louis
;
Milwaukee
;
and New York City
.
My stories have highlighted the obstacles to in-person voting and
absentee ballots - long before President Trump started tweeting about
it.

The American Prospect independently reports on ideas, politics, and
power around the world, and this reporting wouldn't be possible
