The redistricting fight in Texas is getting uglier by the day, John.

Donald Trump now says that Republicans are “entitled” to five more congressional seats in Texas, and Governor Greg Abbott is doing everything in his power to deliver. He even ordered the arrest of Texas Democrats who refused to bow down to King Trump and his rigged maps before the 2026 midterms.

And it's not just happening in Texas.

As you read this, Ohio Republicans are preparing to redraw their congressional maps this fall, Missouri's GOP governor is openly considering rigging the map to steal another Democratic seat, and J.D. Vance is being sent to Indiana to pressure Republican leaders there to gerrymander their maps, too.

Make no mistake: This is a coordinated, nationwide assault on our democracy. Right now, one party is rigging the system while we're told to be patient and hope for the best. That's NOT how we save what we believe in.

The question now is how do we fight back?

A growing number of governors, including Kathy Hochul of New York and Gavin Newsom of California, are fighting fire with fire. They announced plans to redraw their own congressional maps to counter what Republicans are doing in Texas. And other governors around the country are lining up behind them, ready to give Republicans a taste of their own medicine.
