Dear John,
The United States is supposed to stand for liberty, justice, and human dignity, but right now, ICE detention centers are sites of cruelty and constitutional collapse.
A shocking new report from Human Rights Watch titled “You Feel Like Your Life Is Over” exposes horrific abuse inside ICE facilities. Migrants are suffering medical neglect, physical violence, filthy and overcrowded conditions, and retaliation for speaking out.
Yet Republicans have no oversight, with no hearings or investigations. We cannot allow the U.S. government to detain human beings in conditions that violate the Constitution.
Migrants in U.S. custody are protected by civil and human rights, and when those rights are trampled, Congress has a duty to act.
Tell Congress to open investigations into ICE abuse. They must demand oversight and end the silence.
Civil rights do not stop at the door of a detention cell. And cruelty should never be official policy. Yet that’s exactly what’s happening when ICE denies basic medical care and punishes people for asserting their rights.
This is a deliberate strategy of violence and silence. Migrants are not invisible. They are ignored. And the longer Congress refuses to act, the more ICE is empowered to escalate the abuse. Every failure to investigate sends a clear message: you can get away with anything as long as your victims don’t have power.
Lawmakers do not get to wash their hands of this. They are funding ICE. They are giving them legal cover. They are choosing silence over accountability. That choice makes them responsible for what happens in those cells.
Congress cannot be allowed to pretend this report does not exist. The facts are public. The abuses are proven. The victims are calling out. The only question is whether Congress will answer or continue to hide behind inaction.
Call on Congress to investigate ICE detention abuse and protect the rights of every person in U.S. custody.
A government that abuses the vulnerable with impunity has lost its legitimacy. So let’s make sure our lawmakers stand up to ICE now.
