Sections 9 and 10 of Article I of the U.S. Constitution mysteriously
disappeared from the official Constitution website.
[ [link removed] ]Rolling Stone: The national library has apparently, by accident,
modified its online copy of the U.S. Constitution to remove the
president’s least favorite part: The provision that guarantees people’s
right to challenge their detention and demands the government justify
their confinement.
It just so happens that Section 9 is Donald Trump’s least favorite part of
the Constitution, as it protects people in the United States from unjust
detention.
This section states, “The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not
be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public
Safety may require it.”
This is the same provision that the Trump administration is trying to
suspend in order to detain and deport people without due process, while
claiming that the U.S. is currently under “invasion.”
Trump officials are now claiming the website deletion was due to a
“glitch,” but it seems like an incredibly sus coincidence.
Whether or not this change was accidental, we see what’s happening: since
Trump returned to the White House in January, he and his MAGA
administration have repeatedly attacked the Constitution, rolled back our
rights, and threatened our democracy.
