Time to end privatisation

Dear
John
,

It’s the NHS’s 72nd birthday in just over a week.

Hardworking nurses, doctors and NHS staff up and down the country deserve our thanks and support to recover from this crisis.

It’s been an incredibly hard few months – many, many people have lost loved ones and suffered. Many deaths could have been avoided with proper PPE and proper funding for a PUBLIC NHS.

Now, this government is using coronavirus to hand out ever more contracts to private companies – instead of using that money to build up our NHS. And they’re voting against protecting our NHS in trade deals.

Perhaps they’re hoping you’ll go to the pub and forget all about it.

Don’t let them get away with it.

We Own It is working with Keep Our NHS Public and Build Back Better to give our NHS a birthday to remember on Sunday 5th July.

We need YOU to help make this happen.

Make or buy a cake. Find a way to add an anti-privatisation message (whether its taking a slice out, or adding decoration).

Don’t let Matt Hancock tell the story of our NHS and of the last few months of crisis.

The government says ‘we love the NHS’ but once the clapping stops, they bring in private companies:
* £9.2 billion a year of the NHS's budget goes to private companies
* The government handed out contracts to private companies worth £1.7 billion in the last three months
* The privatised NHS Supply Chain failed to get PPE to frontline NHS and care workers
* Now Serco is failing on track and trace, making it harder for us to come out of lockdown safely and hug our loved ones again

These decisions are impacting England the most - but they're making life harder for our NHS in every country of the UK.

It’s up to us to send a clear message - YES we’ll celebrate the NHS but we want it back – no more slices going to private companies!

When the NHS was created 72 years ago, it wasn't supposed to be privatised. The NHS sponsored by Serco is not the NHS we celebrated at the Olympics.

Calling all creative cake bakers and decorators...

With your baking we can spread the word about what's really happening to our wonderful NHS.

Your cakes need to be seen by Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock, your local MP and your local newspaper - before you get stuck in with a cup of tea.

We'll tell the press, politicians and celebrities about your cakes over the coming week and try to get them involved in a UK-wide 'bugger off bake off' to the private companies.
Will you accept the NHS bake off challenge? ([link removed])
Bake your cake this weekend - or if you don't fancy baking one, buy one and add your message in whatever way works for you!

Whether your cake recipe is from Nigella or Mary Berry, Jamie Oliver or Coop's finest - we hope it's delicious and we can't wait to see it!

Have a lovely weekend,

Cat, Alice, Pascale, Chris, and Ellen - the We Own It team

PS Date for your diary - join us at the online rally for the NHS’s birthday ([link removed]) , 3.30pm on Sunday 5th July with Keep Our NHS Public, Health Campaigns Together and the People's Assembly. We'd love to see you there!
