Thanks to You, We Continue Serving Clients during COVID

Open Hearts Open Doors Like These
|
|
Thanks to your support, despite COVID-19, our critical work continues every day. Doorways' dedicated and creative staff members have found ways to bring ongoing support to clients remotely, like therapeutic activity kits for kids in HomeStart, telemental health sessions for counseling clients, and more.

Therapeutic Activity Kits Empower Kids to Continue their Progress during COVID
|
Doorways' Children's Services staff have curated these kits and delivered them to families via no-contact home visit drop-offs. Every kit was individualized to help each client with their therapeutic goals, help relieve stress, and increase coping skills at home, or to aid in the client's participation in telemental health sessions.

"The use of mask making in therapy has promoted self-reflection around the qualities and characteristics that make up the public and private self. For example, children may use the outside of the mask to represent a self that they feel comfortable sharing with others while using the inside of the mask to represent an inner world that may be more private or hidden."
—Sonia, Doorways' Bilingual Children's Counselor

4 More Ways We've Adjusted Our Services to Continue Meeting Clients' Needs
|
- Doorways' Revive Domestic & Sexual Violence Counseling Program is still open and operating remotely. Services are available via phone or a secure telemental health option.
- Following the COVID-19 best practice of moving clients out of congregate living settings, Doorways has moved of our Domestic Violence Safehouse clients to hotels.
- Additionally, many of the youth and families living in Doorways' Family Home have moved on to their next step, an apartment of their own, through rapid rehousing, made more readily available by Arlington County in an attempt to support the best practices of moving clients out of congregate living.
- Doorways continues to support clients who graduate from shelter through our HomeStart Supportive Housing Program, where Doorways' services come to them. Now those services are delivered remotely and through no-contact drop-off of supplies like the therapeutic activity kits.
