Last week, a federal judge heard arguments in a powerful case with major implications for religious freedom in America.

Truth Family Bible Church in Idaho was told it could no longer rent a public charter school gym for Sunday services. Why? Because the school was applying for public bonds and officials feared that leasing space to a religious organization might violate Idaho’s Blaine Amendment. That 130-year-old state provision bans “aid” to religious institutions even something as basic as space rental.

But Truth Family didn’t back down.

With representation from Pacific Justice Institute, they filed a federal lawsuit to challenge this unconstitutional restriction and now, they’re asking the court to strike down the Blaine Amendment altogether. The judge is expected to rule as early as September.

Why it matters:
If successful, this case could not only restore Truth Family’s right to gather but also protect churches and ministries across the country from being treated differently because of their beliefs.
