Big news for housing costs: Last week, the state put an end to renter-paid broker's fees. The ban, which Governor Healey filed, was passed by the Legislature and signed into law as part of the FY26 budget proposal, now requires the fee to be paid by whoever hires the broker, which is usually the landlord.
Prior to this change, renters were often forced to put down as much as $10,000 before even moving into an apartment. Eliminating renter-paid broker fees is a major win in our efforts to tackle housing affordability! Make sure to thank the Governor and your legislators! |
