SIGN NOW: The Trump Administration is trying to make taxpayers like you foot the bill to upgrade the plane Qatar gave him – and Republicans in Congress are refusing to stop it. Tell Congress we demand better >>
John, Trump is reportedly spending $1 billion of your money to upgrade the $400 million luxury jet bribe he got from Qatar. [1]
Trump has even floated the idea of keeping the plane at his presidential library after he leaves office [2] – and blocking a blatantly corrupt move like that should be the bare minimum for Congress. But instead Republicans on the Senate Appropriations Committee just unanimously refused to do so. [3]
This should be a no-brainer for Congress: Don’t let Trump violate the Constitution and steal a government plane. But apparently that’s too much to ask of our elected representatives.
This is about more than just the plane. It’s a perfect illustration of this administration’s lawlessness – and Congress’s inaction:
The absolute least Congress can do is block Trump from keeping this billion-dollar bribe. Demand they act now >>
When this scandal first broke, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) warned it was “rife with political espionage, ethical and constitutional problems.” [8]
But – stop me if you’ve heard this one before – when it came time to back up her words with action, she joined the rest of her Republican colleagues in selling out to Trump. [9]
This scandal is a perfect example of how Trump, Bondi, and their enablers in Congress are putting self-enrichment ahead of public service – all while pretending they’re working for the people.
Our leaders are failing us. They’re gutting healthcare, slashing food assistance, and telling working people there’s no money to help us – but plenty for them and their billionaire friends.
Anyone who sees this will rightly wonder: is our government working for We The People or the highest bidder?
Tell Congress: This is the bare minimum. Block Trump from keeping this $1 billion vanity plane >>
Trump and his friends in Congress are counting on the chaos and noise to distract us – to add this to the list of outrageous things he says and does every day. Let’s make it clear we won’t let this slide, John.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
