Dear John,

Maine has some of the best voter turnout of any state in the country, and there's a reason for that. Progressive and inclusive policies, like same-day voter registration, online voter registration, and absentee ballot drop boxes have helped enfranchise Maine voters and boost voter turnout.

But, far-right politicians and out-of-state interest groups want to undo all the progress we’ve made to make our elections fairer, securer, and more accessible.

Last week, Maine’s Secretary of State announced that the anti-voter referendum will be Question 1 on the statewide ballot. This referendum question takes aim at Maine’s absentee voting laws, making it harder for people across the state to vote – especially seniors, Mainers with a disability, and Mainers without reliable transportation.

We’re calling on you to join us this November and VOTE NO on Question 1 to protect absentee voting.

Key provisions in this referendum include:
* Eliminating ongoing absentee ballots, a key resource for Maine seniors and Mainers with disabilities.
* Reducing the time period for early absentee voting.
* Preventing absentee voters from allowing a family member or friend to drop off their ballot.
* Limiting the number of secure ballot drop boxes a town may offer.
* Prohibiting towns from including return postage on absentee ballots, even if local taxpayers vote to fund it.
* And creating one of the strictest voter identification laws in the country.

There is no room in our democracy for these kinds of voter suppression tactics.

You can also join us and the Save Maine Absentee Voting coalition in canvassing across the state to make voters aware of this referendum question. Sign up for a shift here [[link removed]].

Thank you for standing up for democracy,
