Hello John,

It might be the summer holidays but, with your help, we’re still busy making the world a kinder place for wild animals. There’s much news to share and many easy ways to get involved – even while you’re on holiday!

First up, Born Free has been hitting the headlines with our major new report on apes in zoos. Our evidence clearly shows how they suffer. Could you take action for your captive cousins?

There’s plenty of other news too, from summer-holiday activities for kids, to two rescued animals – Wanjala the pangopup and Sahara the lioness. Together, we’re having a big impact, one animal at a time!

The facts are indisputable. Great apes don’t belong in zoos. Life in captivity harms their health and well-being. Our new report outlines the evidence and calls for an immediate phasing out of apes in UK zoos. (Then Europe. Then the world!)

You can get involved by signing our pledge not to visit facilities which house great apes, then encouraging family and friends to do the same. And look out for our digital ape advert in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham and Manchester – created by George Logan, with an Ocean Outdoor grant.

Calling all lion lovers… You can still join our Walk on the Wild Side fundraiser this August and take 23,000 steps to honour the 23,000 lions left in the wild. The purrfect outdoor activity for family and friends. But, will you walk, run, or mix it up?!
