Have you heard them in your neighborhood, John? Fireworks are a sure sign of summer, especially in the week leading up to July 4th. Socially distanced BBQs and celebrations are sure to follow.
Unfortunately, there is a more insidious sign of summertime: increased shootings.
Experts know that there is a strong correlation between heat and crime. Each summer we see a spike in gun violence, and this year is no different. July 4th itself is one of the deadliest days of the year, each year. Amid political unrest, gun sales are surging across the country while cities from New York to Chicago to Seattle have seen rises in gun violence in the last month.
John, it doesn’t have to be like this.
There isn’t a single solution to prevent gun violence; it’s a multi-faceted epidemic that needs a multi-faceted approach. That’s why Brady takes a comprehensive approach:
- We partner with local violence prevention groups in cities across the country.
- We hold reckless gun dealers accountable in court.
- We support urban violence intervention methods that invest in underserved communities and promote practices like community policing to break systemic problems that perpetuate generational cycles of violence.
- We educate gun owners about safe storage methods in order to prevent family fire and keep guns inaccessible to children.
In short, we know that the solutions to gun violence come from our communities, our fights in Congress, and in the courts.
Brady is working hard to combat gun violence every day. Can we count on your support to help us fight this epidemic?
Thanks for your support! We are lucky to have you in this fight.
