A few of the most common questions we have been hearing from charities recently...
Q: I’m a newly registered charity. When will I have to complete an Annual Information Statement (AIS)?
You can check your charity’s reporting due dates on the ACNC Charity Register. [[link removed]]
Simply type your charity’s name in the ‘Search by Charity’ field and click on your charity when it appears.
You’ll be able to see a range of information including your charity’s profile, financials and documents, people and history.
Go to the ‘Profile’ tab and scroll down the page to see when the next AIS is due, and the reporting period.
The ‘Financials and documents’ tab also has information about when your AIS and financial reports are due.
View our guidance on AIS reporting periods [[link removed]] for more information.
Q: Who can complete the Annual Information Statement (AIS)?
There are a number of people within a charity that can complete the AIS.
This includes a charity’s board member, committee member or trustee. Authorised People within a charity, such as a chief executive officer, chief financial officer, company secretary or senior manager can also complete the AIS.
Charities can nominate an authorised agent to complete the AIS on behalf of the charity, such as a lawyer, accountant, or an existing registered charity (referred to as a lodging entity).
Submit the AIS in the ACNC Charity Portal. [[link removed]]
To access the Charity Portal, you need to sign up and log in with your personal email address.
It is important that you use your own unique email address, not a shared or generic charity email address. This is because the email address you use will be linked to your own personal Charity Portal account.
If you’re having trouble accessing your charity in the Portal or you can’t see your charity listed when you sign in, refer to our instructions for assistance [[link removed]].
Resources for newly-registered charities
Charities must meet ongoing obligations to retain registration. You must notify us each time a Responsible Person (a committee or board member or trustee) commences or resigns from a position. Learn more [[link removed]].
