The Unz Review Digest - June 26, 2020

The death of George Floyd in police custody has become a historic event, inspiring protests, riots, and looting not merely in the US but in Europe as well, and roiling our entire political and social system.  But although a fully consistent narrative has been promoted by our entire media and political apparatus, Left and Right, our article by John-Paul Leonard takes a very different approach, and has consequently attracted more traffic in its first week than almost anything we have previously published, with greater readership than the next three most popular pieces this week combined.  Although the MSM has very grudgingly admitted that Floyd had a long history of violent crime and drug-dealing, no mention has been made of the fact that at the time of his death his blood showed lethal levels of Fentanyl and other illegal drugs.  Moreover, the knee-neck hold used to restrain him was a fully authorized Minneapolis police tactic and in recent years had been used thousands of times across the country, with virtually no fatalities.  If Floyd was nearly the only American to ever die from that hold, perhaps it is more than pure coincidental that he had lethal levels of illegal drugs in his system when he expired.  This and other issues were hotly debated in the nearly 500 comments, totaling almost 70,000 words.

Ranking second and coming up very fast, setting a near record for readership in its first 24 hours, was Fred Reed’s sad suggestion that America may no longer be salvageable as a country, with the destruction of so many of our historical monuments representing the final proof that more than two generations of efforts to incorporate and assimilate blacks in our society have simply failed, with the problems now extending to much of the younger white population as well.  Media and academic censorship may now produce an irreversible destruction of our traditional freedoms.  This bitter thesis quickly attracted over 300 comments totaling almost 35,000 words.

In most other weeks, several other articles would have easily placed first.  Ellen Brown dissected BlackRock, which has displaced Goldman Sachs as the “Great Vampire Squid.” Mike Whitney suggested that the huge wave of protests and riots may be a coordinated effort by the Deep State to destroy our freedoms, while Nicholas Stix focused on the DNC as the likely source.  And finally Larry Romanoff argued that the renewed cases of Covid-19 in China may represent an attack by American intelligence agencies.

Truth is the first victim in politics. Factions and passions rule. Random facts are picked as weapons, no one thinks things through. We need to understand the facts surrounding the death of George Floyd. Many key facts are being ignored: Floyd’s blood tests showed a concentration of Fentanyl of about three times the fatal dose.... What fun, what entertainment. And rare: One seldom sees the collapse of a landmark society in a rush of wondrous idiocy. Would I could sell tickets. Don’t look at it as a loss, but as a show, an unwanted but grand amusement. The coup de grace in our ripening decadence is the current uprising purportedly,... Read More
To most people, if they are familiar with it at all, BlackRock is an asset manager that helps pension funds and retirees manage their savings through “passive” investments that track the stock market. But working behind the scenes, it is much more than that. BlackRock has been called “the most powerful institution in the financial... Read More
Tucker Carlson is right, the protests and riots are not a momentary civil disturbance. They are an attack the Constitutional Republic itself, the heart and soul of American democracy. The Black Lives Matter protests are just the tip of the spear, they are an expression of public outrage that is guaranteed under the first amendment.... Read More
Earlier: Minneapolis Burning: This Happened Because Antifa Weren't Punished After Charlottesville And Inaugural Riots My June 1 phone call with a Leftist relative revealed just how powerful is what Steve Sailer calls the Megaphone—the Main Stream Media when it acts in unison. My relative, whom I will call MR, really believes that Antifa is a... Read More
From the date of the initial outbreak in Wuhan I watched carefully on a daily basis the dispersion and progression of the coronavirus in China and then abroad, collecting as much data as were available on each location. By late May of 2020, China had been infection-free for many weeks, the concern turning to the... Read More
[Excerpted from the latest Radio Derb, now available exclusively through VDARE.com] It is allegedly always darkest before the dawn. Here’s some darkness: the symphony orchestra of Austin, Texas has fired their lead trombonist. This is a white lady named Brenda Sansig Salas, 51 years old and a U.S. Army veteran. It is difficult to find anything good to say about Donald Trump, but the reality is that he has not started any new wars, though he has come dangerously close in the cases of Venezuela and Iran and there would be considerable incentive in the next four months to begin something to bolster his “strong... Enoch Powell, delivering perhaps the most notorious speech of 20th century British politics, warned that “In this country in 15 or 20 years’ time the black man will have the whip hand over the white man.” In much the same way as his demographic projections, the remarkable Enoch was more than a little off on... At the start of French Revolution, Bertrand Barère declared, “The revolutions of a barbarous people destroy all monuments, and the very trace of the arts seems to be effaced. The revolutions of an enlightened people conserve the fine arts, and embellish them […]” Soon after, though, thousands of French statues were wrecked, and many heads... Read More
I have to say that I am amazed that so many folks on the Left seem to think that the current riots in the US are a spontaneous rebellion against police violence, systemic racism, and history of persecution and exploitation of Blacks and Indians, etc. As for the violence, looting and riots - they are... This book, shortly to be published in the US, is written by a geneticist. Racism is a topic of contemporary interest, and there are certainly different conceptions of reality. The book is diminished by its title, which proclaims it an aggressive polemic, looking for a fight. “How to argue about race” would advertise a better... Read More

After a long illness the Liberal Class faded away. It died after decades of being morbidly dysfunctional. It was often out of its mind with delirium, and with periods of being semi-comatose. It had suffered from physical deterioration, mental depression and hallucinations of its former grandeur. An autopsy was performed to determine the exact cause... Read More

We made it! As a man after prolonged illness gets up on his feet, slowly and uncertainly, and makes his first steps, so mankind is rising from its sickbed. There are nurses, doctors, heirs and lawyers who want to keep the patient in bed forever so they will enjoy a free run, but he is... Read More
Two weeks ago a senior Trump Administration official revealed that the president had decided to withdraw 9,500 American soldiers from Germany and that the administration would also be capping total U.S. military presence in that country at 25,000, which might involve more cuts depending what is included in the numbers. The move was welcomed in... Read More
Everyone knows that Leftists are hypocrites. White “Black Lives Matter” protesters who have incited and even participated in horrifying disorder, demanded the abolition of the police, and “taken a knee” to virtue-signal, returning home to overwhelmingly white, safe suburbs. Social Justice Warriors who proclaim that all races are “equal” in every way, and vociferously condemn... Read More
[Excerpted from the latest Radio Derb, now available exclusively through VDARE.com] The brave spirits of Seattle originally named their new country Chaz, for Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone. Nixon 68 is back with a vengeance, with President Trump placing himself as the guarantor/enforcer of Law & Order. That slogan guaranteed Nixon’s election, and was coined by Kevin Phillips, then an expert in “ethnic voting patterns”. Philips makes for a very interesting case.
