In Memphis, library workers are categorized as mayoral appointees, not as public servants - this means they can be fired for no reason and their jobs can be used as political favors. Our chapter had more than 40 people turn out last night in support of Memphis library workers as they advocated for City Council and Mayor Paul Young to change this unjust and inaccurate categorization status.
Now these workers need our support - will you lend your name and help call for the end to this outdated practice so we can correctly classify library workers as civil service employees?
Can You Contribute? Help Fund Our National Delegates
There are just two days until the DSA National Convention in Chicago - let’s make sure our comrades are not taking on a financial burden to represent us. Shout out to the Workplace Organizing Committee - they passed-the-hat and raised $568 towards our goal in just one night!
Send what you can to our chapter Venmo @MemphisMidsouthDSA. Every bit helps - if everyone reading this email sent just $2, we would reach our goal!
Our Trans Rights & Bodily Autonomy subcommitee needs your help to run our chapter’s gender affirming closet which will distribute free clothing and resources at the Honky Tonk Stomp Tennessee Roller Derby Tournament hosted this weekend by Memphis Roller Derby at the Pipkin Building. We will be out there on both Saturday and Sunday, so there are plenty of volunteers needed!
Sign up for a shift (or two!) and help staff the closet using the Action Network link
Able to help with transport and set up/pack up? Reply to this email or connect to the Mutual Aid Committee on Signal
These events are a great way to have fun while living out our mutual aid goals - come on out for some rewarding work, socialize with your comrades, and connect with folks along the way!
