John,
Today marks 60 years since the Voting Rights Act became law, a moral turning point in our nation’s history.
With its passage, we took a powerful step towards fulfilling the promise that all people are created equal. For the first time, Black Americans were guaranteed access to the ballot box, given the chance to choose leaders who represented them, and empowered to shape the future of their communities.
Since 1965, the Voting Rights Act has been amended five times to further expand and protect that sacred right. But today, that progress is under attack.
Republicans across the country are working to chip away at the Voting Rights Act for their own political gain; we're seeing it in real time in Texas. And now, with a GOP-aligned Supreme Court signaling openness to challenges brought forward by Donald Trump and his allies, the very constitutionality of the VRA could be on the line.
We cannot stand by and allow this to happen. The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy. When that foundation cracks, so does everything we’ve built upon it.
Now more than ever, we must fight to protect the right to vote for all Americans. Add your name if you agree: The GOP must leave the VRA alone.
