Dear John,

We started off July voting on the biggest betrayal of working families in modern history. On July 4th, President Trump signed the Big Ugly Bill into law, effectively stripping millions of Americans of their healthcare by cutting subsidies for the ACA, Medicaid and food assistance, among other terrible policies.

I proudly voted NO on this disastrous agenda because every American deserves access to healthcare, food assistance, and clean energy. Even with all Democrats voting against this terrible bill, the budget passed with the GOP betraying their constituents and raising the national debt.

After voting no, I got to work demanding that various government agencies, including the Social Security Administration, restore customer service metrics on their website, and pressed the State Department for explanations about cancelling hundreds of thousands of dollars for emergency food services and millions of dollars worth of taxpayer-funded birth control.

In Congress, I helped introduce two bills, one to establish a national heat safety standard so workers are protected from extreme heat, and the Visible Act, which would prohibit ICE agents from hiding their identification and wearing masks to obscure their faces.

ICE has been terrorizing our community for months, kidnapping people, some of whom are citizens or legal immigrants, off the streets without identifying themselves and wearing face masks. This is what the government does in police states and I won't stand for it. I also wrote an op-ed exposing the inhumane conditions of these ICE detention centers and their illegal barring of Members of Congress from performing oversight.

I also continue to stand up for those affected by the wildfires. My bill that provides tax filing relief to victims of natural disasters is now law. After seeing the Eaton Fire ravage my community, I know victims of natural disasters should be able to focus on their recovery without fear of being penalized for missing a tax filing deadline.

Finally, in California, I came together with members of my community to commemorate the six-month anniversary of the start of the Eaton Fire. I stood with Californians as we honored the 19 lives lost in the fire—and I continue to demand federal funding to help our city rebuild.

I will continue to push back against the Trump Administration and their inhumane agenda, while always standing up for our district. Even though Speaker Johnson sent the House home until September, I’m not taking a break. I will continue working for CA-28 and every American who has been impacted by the disastrous MAGA agenda.

Thank you,

Judy
