It’s no big secret that so many Americans have lost faith in the federal government to do what’s right, even before this new Trump administration.

I hear from so many folks who are fed up with the system, who feel like Congress is only working for themselves, not the American people. And it’s not particularly difficult to see why.

For years, we’ve watched unelected, outside groups set the priorities of Congress, with devastating consequences.

Transparency and accountability are essential to a well-functioning, trustworthy government. That’s why I’ve been one of the most vocal advocates to ban stock trading by members of Congress. I even co-sponsored a bill that would shine a light on dark money in politics, break special interests’ stranglehold on Congress, and close loopholes for lobbyists.

Because we deserve a government that works for us — not billionaires, not special interests.

But if we want to restore trust in our government for good, we need to start by supporting real leaders in Congress, not more self-serving extremists.
