Theatrics Over Policy: The Democrats Have Fled the State (Again)
[[link removed]][link removed]
The Democrats have once again fled the state in a theatrical attempt to delay our redistricting vote in Texas.
Their problem isn’t redistricting lines—it’s the voters’ minds they’ve lost.
We have a quorum in the Texas Senate. We will continue to work on passing bills, including flooding and redistricting.

We’re Not Backing Down

Democrats are pulling a performative stunt in Texas—fleeing the state in an attempt to block redistricting. But we’re not backing down.

Another Big Win for Texas

Another BIG win for Texas.
The last time Democrats fled the state was in 2021, when they went to Washington, D.C. to try to kill Senate Bill 1 by Senator Hughes, R-Tyler—a bill I worked closely on with our Republican senators to make the strongest voter integrity legislation in the country.
No matter how hard they tried, the Democrats couldn’t stop it from passing.
Tuesday marked another major victory for voter integrity, with new measures [[link removed]] to further secure mail-in ballots in Texas.
THC Ban Advances: Senate Passes SB 5, House Follows with Identical Bill
[[link removed]][link removed]
Every law enforcement association in Texas, the Texas Medical Association, and the Texas Pediatric Society support a full ban on THC. Superintendents don’t want it in their schools. 105 of 108 Republicans voted for it in the regular session before Gov. Abbott’s last-minute veto. On Friday, SB 5, the ban on THC, passed to the House. They have filed an identical bill.

Since 2019, bad actors have taken advantage of a loophole in Texas agriculture law to sell potent, intoxicating forms of THC that have nothing to do with agriculture. These shops have rapidly spread throughout Texas, endangering the health and safety of children and families across our state, with no accountability. These products, often containing dangerous levels of THC, are marketed directly towards young people with colorful packaging and images, making THC look like candy or sweets.
I made Senate Bill 5 a top legislative priority for the Senate because we refuse to let these rogue retailers exploit loopholes in state law to sell dangerous THC products in our communities. SB 5 has the support of every law enforcement agency in the state, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Pediatric Society, and many families impacted by this scourge sweeping our state. That is why the Texas Senate passed SB 5 with Republican and Democrat support.
Senate Bill 5, by Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, prohibits the retail sale of any intoxicating cannabinoid in Texas, including in beverages.
SB 5 does not alter the Texas Compassionate Use Program (TCUP) or laws related to the farming of hemp. SB 5 does not impact the sale or use of CBD or CBG products.

Flood Preparedness and Response Hearing in Kerrville
[[link removed]]

On Thursday, we held a flood preparedness and response hearing in Kerrville to examine the catastrophic flooding that swept through the Texas Hill Country on July 4th.
We heard powerful testimony from residents and survivors who shared their personal stories before the Senate and House Select Committees—accounts of lives lost and the hundreds of homes and properties destroyed in Kerr County during the devastating flood.
Thank you for all your support over the years and for everything you do to keep Texas red. May God bless you and your family, and may He continue to bless the greatest state of all—Texas.
Sincerely,
