Republicans know they’re in deep trouble after passing Trump’s Big Bad Bill That Kills People, so they’re breaking the glass and pulling out all the stops to cheat their way to another House majority. But Democrats are making it clear they won’t take this lying down — and nor should we. It’s time to fight fire with fire. Time to log on!

Donald Trump has ordered the Texas legislature to use mid-decade redistricting to further gerrymander one of the most gerrymandered states in the country and squeak out another five House seats in Trump-friendly areas. JD Vance has been dispatched on a side quest to Indiana to convince them to redraw their own maps, in hopes of adding so many red seats that it would stop Democrats from retaking the House in the 2026 midterms.
In protest, Texas state Democrats have fled the state to deny the GOP the quorum they need to certify the new maps, prompting arrest warrants from Governor Abbott and even threats of using the FBI to track them down from Trump, who believes he is “entitled” to the new seats because he said he won the most votes in the history of Texas (he didn’t). This has sparked a ferocious backlash from Texas state Democratic governors like Gavin Newsom and Kathy Hochul, who have opened the door to redoing their own state maps to create new Democratic seats. “I’m tired of fighting this fight with my hand tied behind my back,” Hochul said at a Capitol press briefing. “With all due respect to the good government groups, politics is a political process. Republicans take over the legislature, they can have at it. But until then, we're in charge and we're sick and tired of being pushed around.”
This has sparked some nervous hand-wringing and consternation over the integrity of our democracy and further division in our country. Unfortunately, that ship sailed a LONG time ago. As if it wasn’t clear enough already, the GOP has made it clear that they have no interest in democracy or even the rule of law. They’re in power now because they’ve been rigging the game for decades, and now they’re trying to put the nail in the coffin of our democracy for good.
They recognize that politics is a zero-sum game, and it’s time we did too. Cersei Lannister famously said that “when you play the game of thrones, you win, or you die.” We lost the last game, and people are dying. Our institutions are dying. Our democracy is dying. The rule of law is dying. Our international reputation is dying. Our economy is dying. Everything that made us who we are is being paved over like Jackie Kennedy’s rose garden.
Enough is enough. Tear up those maps. Gerrymander the ever-living fuck out of every blue state in the country. Make it so it is impossible for the GOP ever to win the House again. Because if we don’t, they’ll do it to us — and we’ll never have elections again. We can ban gerrymandering and restore integrity to our democracy once we get rid of the guys trying to kill us.
