Friend --
Pride Month is an incredible celebration -- but it's also a reminder of what's at stake.
Americans have embraced LGBTQ+ equality by repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," passing marriage equality state-by-state until the Supreme Court made it legal everywhere, and fighting for equal rights for our LGBTQ+ friends, families, and neighbors. But the Trump administration is not doing anything to help -- in fact, they're getting rid of important protections and making things worse.
Instead of leading, President Trump prioritized rolling back health care protections for transgender Americans during a global pandemic, in the middle of Pride Month, and on the anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting.
Our voices together make a difference. That's why I'm hoping you'll join me in demanding that President Trump stop his hateful agenda against the LGBTQ+ community: Add your name today.
This is especially important because it was five years ago today that the Supreme Court made equal marriage legal for all Americans, and just last week, the Court ruled to protect LGBTQ+ Americans in the workplace. But while the highest court in the land is working to bend the arc toward equality, Donald Trump has done everything he can to tip the scale back.
It's unconscionable. That's why I've worked so hard in the Senate to be a voice for the LGBTQ+ community, including by sponsoring the Equality Act -- legislation to insert sexual orientation and gender identity into our civil rights laws -- and the Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act, which would condemn conversion therapy as fraudulent.
Meanwhile, President Trump has repeatedly targeted the LGBTQ+ community and worked to strip them of protections and rights: rolling back health care and employment protections, barring transgender Americans from serving in our armed forces, and making it harder for same-sex couples to adopt children.
Like I said -- it's unconscionable.
That's why we need to band together and demand that President Trump end his attacks on LGBTQ+ Americans: Add your name to tell Donald Trump to honor Pride Month by ending his administration's bigoted agenda toward the LGBTQ+ community.
Thank you,
Maria Cantwell
