The MPCA is creating new air toxics regulations that will go beyond current state and federal standards. The proposed rules will apply to industrial facilities in the seven-county metro, setting stricter requirements on air toxics that can cause serious health issues. A key focus of the rulemaking is environmental justice, so the MPCA is emphasizing public engagement through meetings, hearings, and comment periods to promote transparency and inclusivity. The new rules will establish clear, enforceable standards, requiring facilities to monitor, report, and comply with stricter pollution requirements to improve air quality.
