John --
Five years ago today, America rejoiced when the Supreme Court affirmed in Obergefell v. Hodges that love is love.
With that historic decision, same-sex marriage became legal nationwide.
It was a profound step forward for the LGBTQ community and for our country. But it was only one more step on the long road to equality and justice.
This month, the Supreme Court issued another historic decision that marks the progress we've made, ruling that gay and transgender Americans cannot be discriminated against in the workplace.
As we come to the end of Pride month, it's worth reflecting on how far we've come in the 51 years since the Stonewall riots -- and how far we have to go. It was only four years ago that we lost 49 precious souls in the Pulse nightclub shooting. LGBTQ people may now have workplace protections, but there is still no nationwide promise of protection in housing, education, and other public accommodations.
We must not lose sight of the work ahead.
While we cannot attend an in-person Pride march in this year due to COVID-19, we can all show support for the LGBTQ community by attending this year's virtual event, Together for Pride. Click here to register and join us in celebrating Pride: [link removed]
Love is love. Happy Pride.
Stay well,
Suzan
