John,
Let’s be clear: last week’s court ruling doesn’t just affect one group of voters; it’s a test balloon for rolling back major portions of the Voting Rights Act.
The court says voters with disabilities or limited English proficiency can no longer sue if their rights are violated. Only the Department of Justice can bring those cases now.
That’s not how democracy should work. And if they can get away with this, what’s next?
Steve’s office used this exact provision of the law to reach a settlement protecting Minnesota voters just a few years ago. If this latest ruling had been in force back then, we wouldn’t have been able to help.
Steve is standing up and calling this out. But the work ahead will take serious resources.
With today being the 60th anniversary of the VRA, we need to fight back even harder. We’re asking our grassroots supporters to step up and help us build the war chest we need for what’s coming next. Will you make a donation today?
If you've stored your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be processed now. |
Thank you,
Team Simon
