When Bernie visited North Las Vegas in August 2019, over 350 people turned out to see him. On Sunday, about 600 people packed our “Benefits Over Billionaires” town hall in Las Vegas.
The progressive movement that Bernie seeded only grows stronger.

But this trip was about more than just listening to voters at a town hall. We got out in the community to meet with people, hear their concerns, and work together on solutions.
My first stop was Broadacres, a popular swap meet in North Las Vegas, which had been closed for several weeks due to fears of ICE raids. Alongside immigrant rights activist and content creator Carlos Eduardo Espina, I spoke with small business owners who rely on the swap meet and community members about the issues impacting them daily.

That afternoon, I visited Mario’s Westside Market, a locally-owned grocery store nearby. He told me that tomato prices have increased from $1.19 a pound to $1.99 due to tariffs on tomatoes from Mexico. It’s outrageous. Businesses are struggling. Families are struggling. It’s a lose-lose.

Then I visited Moapa Valley High School and got a tour of their Future Farmers of America program. These students raise chickens and cows and grow food for their communities. We need to support these kinds of programs and ensure the USDA invests in rural communities all over the US.
