Don’t miss these upcoming learning and networking opportunities from the Emerging Leaders Peer Network (ELPN):

  • Construction Closing Process in Affordable Housing, Tuesday, August 19, 1-2:30PM Join us remotely for a training that will bring together insights from a financial consultant, lender, LIHTC attorney, and title and escrow officer. Whether you’re preparing for your first closing or need a refresher, this session will give you the tools and confidence to navigate this critical phase and move your project successfully toward groundbreaking.
     
  • 2025 ELPN Mid-Year Party, Thursday, August 21, 5:30-8:30PM Join your fellow affordable housing emerging leaders for a walking tour and happy hour! We will begin with a Mission District Walking Tour, led by NPH partner, Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA). Following the Walking Tour, ELPN will host a Happy Hour at Teeth Bar’s back patio in the Mission. Drinks and bites provided!
 

🏗️ Project Spotlight: Sparrow Terrace Grand Opening

 

Join MidPen Housing on Monday, August 11 from 2-3:30PM to celebrate the Grand Opening of Sparrow Terrace in Watsonville! Sparrow Terrace brings 72 affordable homes to Watsonville for families, including farmworker households and people who have experienced homelessness. This in-person event includes remarks, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, and light refreshments.

 

📋 Join the Cohort: Housing Development Training Institute

 

The California Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) recently announced that applications for the 2026 cohort of the Housing Development Training Institute (HDTI) will be available on September 1. Join them on August 27th as they host an informational webinar for all prospective applicants.

LISC launched HDTI in response to an unmet educational need for a comprehensive program to develop the project management skills of community development corporations' staff. Since 1988, HDTI has trained over 550 graduates representing 100 community development organizations across our state.

 

💡 Board Member Spotlight: Randy Tsuda

The NPH Board continues to play a vital role in helping move our collective work forward and deserves a moment in the spotlight! Join us in celebrating Randy Tsuda, President and CEO of Alta Housing, and NPH Board Member!

Randy joined Alta Housing in 2018 after serving as the Mountain View Community Development Director for over 10 years. He has worked on projects that received awards from the American Planning Association and American Society of Landscape Architects. Mr. Tsuda was also a lecturer for seven years in the Urban and Regional Planning Program at San Jose State University.

Randy joined the NPH Board in 2020 and has held every board officer position, from Board Secretary to Board President, during his tenure. Thank you for your work as an NPH Board Member, Randy!

8/14, The Partnership - Affordable Housing Electrification 101: Policy, Programs, and Technology Join California Housing Partnership this August for their Annual Electrification Training Series for rehab and new construction developments. This year they are offering two deep dive sessions for affordable housing developers, owners, and operators. The 101 session will offer a comprehensive overview of state and federal policies relevant to decarbonization work.

8/21, The Partnership - Affordable Housing Electrification 201: Planning, Operations, and Maintenance California Housing Partnership’s 201 session will focus on practical planning for decarbonization of affordable housing properties. We will feature case studies, developer experiences and energy analysis. This session will also discuss post-construction considerations for operations and maintenance of new all-electric technologies.
