Updates on Labor Day and August Saturdays
We are planning our next mass mobilization for Labor Day: Monday, September 1st, to uplift our struggles against fascism, oligarchy, and the MAGA regime. We are working with many unions and advocacy groups in the city to organize this event. Right now, here’s what we need you to do.
- Save the date, and tell your friends the next big protest is Labor Day.
- Get ready to volunteer. Look out for our volunteer sign-up form when we send it out. Because of the increased need to protect our immigrant friends and neighbors, we will need many more security volunteers than last time. If you don’t want to wait for a form, reply to this email and we’ll get you started.
- Join one of our smaller events every Saturday in August. One thing we really need from our members is to start organizing and attending small events to build our relational network in the city in preparation for big events. It’s easy, fun, and it really helps your community!
Saturday, August 9: Draw Together: Children’s sign-making party, 10:30-12 PM at Ocean View Branch Library. Children can make signs for the Labor Day March or write or draw letters to Congress, with a few words of assistance from their parents. We will mail letters to the proper Member of Congress. Your child might even receive a personal letter from their Representative or Senator. Space is limited; RSVP here.
Saturday, August 23: People’s Posse Leaflet Walk. As an engagement-experiment with people we don't normally reach, we will be distributing Wanted for Treason leaflets in one or more high-traffic locations, followed by a brief evaluation of the action. Sign Up Here to participate in the Peoples’ Posse Leaflet Walk and be informed of time/location.
Saturday, August 30: How to Organize and Run Your Own Protest Training, 3-5 PM at 518 Valencia St. We want more people doing more protests—and we want to share our knowledge of how to put on the safest, most effective protests you can. Space is limited so reserve a ticket on Eventbrite for this free event.
Bookmark our Labor Day 2025 page and check back for more events and more details as we finalize plans. And share it with like-minded people you know who are itching to get back in the streets.
And, don’t forget to sign up for our next general meeting on Sunday, August 17 at 683 Florida St!
We need a plan for mid-decade redistricting in CA to protect American democracy
TX governor Abbott has called for a mid-decade redistricting at Trump’s request to effectively steal 5 seats in TX, eliminate representation for communities of color, and rig the 2026 and 2028 elections. Blue states with Democratic trifectas need to counter this effort to ensure we have a chance at fair elections in the midterms and beyond.
We must fight national election rigging at the state level, therefore we need to support a mid-decade redistricting in California as well. Although it goes against the spirit of independent districts, we must use the tools we have available to us to overpower the MAGA regime. We have to start fighting the fight Republicans are bringing to us.
Call Gov. Newsom and tell him you support mid-decade redistricting.
Our Officials Are Silent—Tell Them to Take a Stand Against FCI Dublin as an ICE Facility!
The opening of an ICE detention facility in Dublin will impact the entire Bay Area community. Research has also shown that areas with immigration detention centers are correlated with higher rates of ICE activities and arrests. This call for elected officials to endorse the ICE Out of Dublin campaign can be shared with city council members, supervisors, state elected officials, and members of Congress.
Call every one of your elected officials to endorse the ICE Out of Dublin campaign.
One Million Rising: We Are Many
As the MAGA regime tightens its grip, people like you are looking for ways they can resist and impede the regime through a creative variety of nonviolent means. Indivisible National’s “One Million Rising” campaign can help you find and wield the particular influence you have.
Across the country, authoritarian forces are getting bolder and more dangerous. MAGA is not hiding their agenda: mass deportations, rollbacks of civil rights, weaponized courts and federal agencies—a full-scale attack on our democracy. It’s not too late to stop this, but it’ll take all of us. We’ll need not only single days of mass action, but also sustained organizing in our communities.
That’s why Indivisible is launching One Million Rising, a national effort to train one million people in the strategic logic and practice of non-cooperation, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign design. This is how we build people-power that MAGA can’t ignore. You can join us—and lead.

Kaiser Permanente Concedes Gender-Affirming Care Without a Fight: But you can fight back
Kaiser Permanente recently ended gender-affirming surgeries for patients under 19 years old. They’re the latest, along with Stanford Medicine, in a wave of healthcare institutions who have abandoned science and obeyed in advance instead of standing up for their patients in the courtroom. We must not allow Republicans to chip away at any of our civil rights, nor our institutions to capitulate so easily.
Contact California Senator Scott Weiner and Attorney General Rob Bonta to thank them for fighting and urge them to continue. And send Kaiser a letter explaining why their policies are wrong. Stay tuned for joint actions at Kaiser facilities or their headquarters in Oakland.

Laugh like it's your civic duty: Satire as a tool of fighting fascism
Trump hates being laughed at. He’s said as much. And while the erosion of our democracy is no laughing matter, satire and humor have often played an important role in undermining authoritarian regimes.
Trump’s second term has felt very heavy to a lot of us, and with good reason—it’s literally life or death, in some cases. But a few of the finest examples of courage to be found among us right now are meeting the moment with humor. Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, and Trey Parker and Matt Stone all gave the middle finger—or Trey Parker’s index finger, as it happens—to Trump, CBS, and CBS’s parent company Paramount following a slew of shady dealings that concluded with Trump’s FCC approving the merger of Paramount and Skydance.
Brendan Carr has made it clear that CBS is just the beginning of this Administration’s war on the media. Corporate media conglomerates will continue to limit viewers’ access to criticism of the regime and to treat our press like pawns. Head over to the blog to find out why laughter may be our best medicine.
The Defunding of The CPB and what you can do
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is shutting down after losing government funding, affecting public media like PBS and NPR. Our Media Accountability team wrote an explainer about the history of public broadcasting, why public media is important, and what we can do to move forward. Read more on our blog.
