John,
Today makes five years since the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision guaranteeing marriage equality for same-sex couples, and just last week our nation’s highest court also ruled that existing civil right law bars employment discrimination because of sexual orientation or gender identity. As Pride month comes to a close, we celebrate these historic victories for LGBTQ equality. But we also know the fight is far from over in Texas.
Today I’m writing to announce TFN’s participation in Give Out Day — the only national day of giving focused on the LGBTQ community. Your support will help us continue our work for equality across Texas.
John, this Pride season — like so much else these last few months — has looked a lot different in so many ways. But while we can’t unite in person, we can still recommit to working together for equality. Please strengthen our fight — make a special gift to support equality today.
Give Out Day is June 30, and the beginning of the 87th Texas Legislature is just six months away. Your support will help us engage, educate and mobilize our network to fight back against the slew of anti-LGBTQ bills to come. Even more importantly, it will help us build support for legislation that protects LGBTQ Texans from discrimination beyond employment, particularly in public services and housing.
For 25 years, TFN has stood with the LGBTQ community against the haters and extremists on the right. In the months ahead, turning up to demand change — at the ballot box and at the Capitol — will be critical to advancing equality for LGBTQ people, for people of color, for women, for immigrants and for other marginalized members of our community.
Will you stand with TFN in the week ahead? Your Give Out Day gift will build momentum for the fights ahead.
With you in the fight for equality,
Kathy Miller
TFN President
