I’m proud to be part of a bipartisan group of 20 members of Congress (10 Republicans and 10 Democrats) who introduced the Dignity Act, a long-overdue step toward real immigration reform. The bill protects Dreamers, strengthens our borders, fixes our asylum process, and creates a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants who pay taxes, pass background checks, and contribute to our communities.
This issue is personal to me. My maternal grandparents came here from Mexico as children. They worked hard, followed the rules, and built better lives. We need a system that reflects that same balance of security and humanity today.
You can read more about the Dignity Act here and read my San Diego Union Tribune op-ed about why we must lead with strength and compassion on immigration here.
