You may have heard about the courageous stand Texas lawmakers are taking to defend our democracy. Here is what’s happening, and why it matters:

FIRST: Donald Trump asked Texas Republicans to redraw our congressional map to help him cling to control of the U.S. House of Representatives – because he knows the midterms won’t go their way.

THEN: Greg Abbott called a special legislative session to force through a new map designed to flip 5 Democratic-held seats from blue to red.

NOW: Texas Democrats have left the state to deny Republicans the quorum they need to ratify their map, while Abbott responded by threatening to arrest them and remove them from office.

Donald Trump thinks he can get away with a power grab like this out in the open. He thinks he can act like a king and no one will stop him.

But Trump is wrong. Texas Democrats are holding the line to protect our democracy and ensure representation for millions of Texans. We all have to have their backs.
