Simister Road Island – consultation
Highways England have announced proposals to improve Simister Island Interchange between the M60, M62 and M66. The interchange is one of the busiest motorway junctions in the north-west used by around 90,000 vehicles each day. The junction was not designed for this level of traffic and as a result suffers from congestion and poor journey time reliability.
Highways England are now holding a public consultation on their plans and would like to hear your views, concerns or ideas. You can find out more about the project and details on how to get involved in their consultation on the project webpage at www.highwaysengland.co.uk/m60-j18-simister-island
The consultation is open until 17 August 2020.

Taxi Licensing
Although the licensing office remains closed to the public, staff are now returning to the office to deal with prioritising drivers who want to get back to work. This means that the council’s vehicle testing station can start testing some vehicles again that need licensing for the first time or require re-licensing.
In March applicants had been advised that as a council we would assist those facing difficulties by deferring payments for licence applications. Those payments will now be collected during July. Whilst we are still not operating at full capacity and have a number of issues to get through the council will continue to support and advise the taxi trade.
