Coronavirus Update

Hi John

Our team in Vietnam have been working hard throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that health workers can protect themselves and prevent the virus from spreading. Please support work like this today as we continue to halt the spread of malaria while keeping people safe as the country recovers from COVID-19. [[link removed]]

Vietnam has been celebrated worldwide for successfully containing the COVID-19 outbreak. It's currently reporting no deaths and around 300 cases [[link removed]], most of whom have recovered. When the virus was spreading quickly in neighbouring countries over the Tet lunar New Year holiday in February, isolation and contact tracing were implemented quickly to avoid a large spread [[link removed]].

During this time, our Vietnam team have shared 132,240 surgical masks, 111,720 pairs of medical gloves and 6,448 bottles of hand sanitizer so frontline workers can safely treat their patients.

Mr Lan, one of our local team members, tells us: “In the past, [health workers] had to monitor, communicate or do tests…without protective equipment. Thanks to Health Poverty Action, they now have masks,…gloves…and they can instruct people to use hand sanitizers before testing.”

As the country looks to recover from COVID-19, we're back to work safely administering malaria tests to people who work in forests in rural Vietnam. These groups are some of the last remaining people at risk of contracting malaria in the country, and we're working with local communities and the government to eventually end malaria in the region.
