The Trump EPA is once again putting polluters ahead of the health of our families by attempting to weaken Clean Air Act standards for power plants, also known as the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) Rule. We know how dangerous this is.
Increased rates of mercury, arsenic, and other heavy metals from fossil fuel-fired power plants lead to increased rates of asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, lung disease, brain damage, and developmental delays in children.
Since the MATS rule was first adopted in 2012, mercury emissions from power plants have decreased 90%, cleaning up our air and improving the health of our communities. The 2024 MATS rule aimed to build on the initial rule’s success and further reduce pollution from mercury and other toxic chemicals.

Weakening these critical clean air safeguards and pollution reduction measures would be extremely detrimental to public health. Pollutants like mercury, arsenic, and other heavy metals lead to increased cases of asthma and cancer, as well as brain damage and developmental issues for children, both for frontline communities and for people living hundreds of miles from these facilities. We are ALL at risk.

Trump’s EPA is deliberately ignoring science and putting our lives in danger — just to further enrich polluters. This is despicable, and we CANNOT let them get away with it.

Thank you for all you do, Friend.
