Dear John, Violence against Palestinians in the West Bank is at crisis levels. US inaction has fueled the impunity. Last month, Awdah Hathaleen, a Palestinian peace activist, was murdered by Yinon Levi, a settler who was previously sanctioned by the US for violent attacks. After President Trump revoked those sanctions in January, Levi and other extremists have been emboldened to resume terrorizing Palestinian communities. Sadly, the list of Palestinians killed by violent settlers is growing, including two Americans, Saif Musallet and Khamis Ayyad, who were killed in recent weeks too. Settler violence has skyrocketed by 30% since January. The Sanctions and Accountability for Non-Compliance and Transparent Investigative Oversight for National Security (SANCTIONS) in the West Bank Act, introduced by Senators Welch and Van Hollen, would restore these vital sanctions, making sure the US can hold perpetrators of violence accountable and deter further bloodshed. Contact your Senators now and urge them to cosponsor this bill to reinstate comprehensive sanctions on violent settlers. In solidarity, Madeleine Cereghino |
