The New York Times:
Corporation for Public Broadcasting Will Shut Down
This is unacceptable, John.
Washington Republicans have succeeded in essentially killing public media as we know it in America. This is what happens in authoritarian regimes. It should give us all pause.
After cutting all funding for public media from the federal budget, the GOP is one step closer to their long-held goal of ending access to public media. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting — which distributes federal funds to PBS and NPR — is shutting down.
John, if you’re angry, too, please add your name to our petition demanding the federal government restore public media funding >>>
Americans across the country rely on PBS and NPR for reliable, factual, and free information — especially folks in rural areas, where a local NPR station might be the sole provider of community news.
Republicans would rather you not have that information.
But John, it’s not only the news that will get cut. From educational programs for children to shows highlighting what’s happening in our communities, all the programming that PBS and NPR provide is on the line now.
It may seem like a trivial matter in the face of so many other concerns, but the effects are real and will be felt by families across the country. PBS Kids shows help teach math and literacy skills alongside social-emotional development. They have a tangible impact on the youngest learners.
Public media is a public good, and we have to save it.
Please — join us and speak up for public media. Add your name to our petition here.
Thank you for being with us in the fight.
