Two days ago, a group of courageous Texas Democrats fled their state and landed right here in Chicago — putting their political careers on the line to protect the voting rights of Texans.

They’re standing up to Greg Abbott and Donald Trump’s extremist redistricting scheme — a blatant attempt to rig the maps, silence voters, and cling to power.

And now? Texas Republicans are threatening to arrest those lawmakers for doing what’s right. Governor Greg Abbott even ordered state troopers to track them down.

Let’s be clear:

This isn’t just about Texas. It’s about our entire democracy.

This is a power grab — plain and simple. A desperate attempt by Trump and his allies to rig the House, silence millions of voters, and make it harder for people of color and working families to make their voices heard.

We cannot — and will not — let that go unchallenged.

Illinois has always been a safe haven for those fighting for justice. And as long as I’m in public service, it always will be.

We’re standing shoulder to shoulder with these legislators because this fight isn’t just about Texas and Illinois. It’s about the future of our country — and the right of every American to vote freely and fairly.
