Let's take a look at Placemaking and Gathering locations around our Community through time:
Entertainment Opportunities
* Dating back to the 1800’s, Northville has always been a mecca of entertainment with folks coming to town via stagecoach, trolly, train and eventually automobiles to take in shows.
* Historic sites for plays, concerts, movies, dinners and dances included our Opera house, the Princess Rink, the crow’s nest platform on Main & Center and our downtown streets.
Festivals
* Northville hosts many festivals, especially in the summer, where we have the opportunity to use the streets exclusively for these gatherings.
Parades
* The Community is known as parade City USA with 4 major parades bringing in thousands of folks from southeastern Michigan, where Wayne and Oakland County Sheriffs work with our first responders to keep a safe environment.
Special Event Activities
* Events such as Skeletons Come Alive, Streets of Treats, Ladies’ Night Out, Tunes on Tuesday, and numerous other concerts & events take place downtown.
Car Shows
* Through the years we have hosted events with cars, including the Concours d’Elegance, along with shows during the Victorian Festival and the monthly Cars & Coffee event. In fact, we even hosted the first Detroit Metro Dealers’ auto show.
Swimming
* Areas for swimming were gravel pits and ponds around Northville, the Fish Hatchery & County Splash Park (1950’s). Today, folks still cool off at the Northville Swim Club and at Meadowbrook Country Club.
Parks – (Close to 750 Acres in Northville)
* Parks in the City include: Mill Race Village, Ford Field, Cabbagetown Park, Maplewood Park, Old Village School Park & Joe Denton Park
* Some Township Parks to experience; Marv Gans Park, Millennium Park, Unity Skatepark, Legacy Park along with Fish Hatchery Park, which the Township & City own together.
* Dog Parks - Marv Gans Dog Park (Beck Rd) & Cady Steet Park (Cady St.)
All these Parks are under the supervision of Parks & Recreation jointly supported by the Township & the City working together.
To add to these outstanding greenspaces, the entire riverwalk park system’s pathways, stretching from the Mill Race Village to Wayne County Cass Benton Park should be ready by the end of 2026. The outstanding 10-acre bioswale park at the Downs will be constructed by Fall, followed by the City Park behind the Presby Church. This pathway system will unite City, Township, County & State parks.
Get out and enjoy our placemaking touchpoints before the end of summer!
Keep that Northville Summer Faith!
