The results of this year’s elections are doubly important -- and that’s why I’m counting on your help right now.

First, of course, this year’s elections will determine who controls our government as we start a new decade, giving us the opportunity not only to block further abuses of the Constitution, but to take important steps to further our values.

But a second aspect of November's outcome will be very important in shaping our political future: Our success in defending the Democrats who not only won seats from the right-wing dominated Republican Party, but went on to support a strong, progressive agenda.

Our Democrats have supported a wide range of causes, from economic fairness to environmental protections to LGBTQ+ rights to a woman’s right to choose.

Successful Democratic challengers made the difference between victory and defeat in the House.

Now the question that will be in the minds of politicians, journalists, strategists and people across the country is whether these Democrats will pay a political price for standing up.

I can tell you after 4O years in legislative bodies that as strongly as members feel about issues, seeing their colleagues from similar districts lose their seats because they took tough votes is not a source of encouragement.

By contributing to the DCCC’s effort not only to re-elect Democrats but to add to their ranks, you help make the argument that good policy is good politics and a very beneficial self-fulfilling prophecy.
