This week the IPC released a report confirming what we’ve been urgently warning for months: Famine is unfolding in Gaza.

Children are dying of hunger, malnutrition is skyrocketing, and families have exhausted every possible means to survive.

One of our team members in Gaza, Areej, reports:
"This is the harsh reality we face. The situation is unbearable, and everyone waits anxiously for a ceasefire. Everyone is drained. There’s a shared feeling among people now: either this ends, and aid is allowed, or let it all end for us. The emotional and physical toll has become too much to bear. People are no longer just hungry, they’re hopeless."
Meanwhile, Mercy Corps and our humanitarian partners continue to be blocked from delivering aid at the scale that’s needed. We need a permanent ceasefire and unfettered access to the enclave now.

As more families around the world face conflict, hunger, and disaster — and the fallout of foreign aid cuts affect communities around the world — your support is more important than ever. If you’re ready to make your next gift to help us reach more families in need in 35+ countries, please consider making a donation right now.

Early this week, Mercy Corps CEO Tjada D’Oyen McKenna responded to the IPC report saying:
"Airdrops and humanitarian pauses are insufficient, and they won't prevent mass starvation or help bring malnourished children back from the brink of death. None of these are adequate substitutes for a functioning humanitarian system....The fastest and most effective way to save lives right now is to open every border crossing and allow humanitarian organizations to safely and significantly increase the delivery of life-saving assistance, not just food but malnutrition treatment, clean water, and other essentials for survival."
Mercy Corps is on the ground in Gaza, providing urgently needed aid — but it’s not enough. We stand ready to scale our response as soon as we’re able to do so.

Thank you for showing up for our teams and the communities we serve. We’ll keep you updated on our progress.

Sincerely,

The Mercy Corps team
