Understanding Poverty in California

Sarah Bohn, Caroline Danielson, Sara Kimberlin, et al.

After most pandemic relief programs ended in 2023, California’s poverty rate rose to its 2019 level; about one in three Californians were living in or near poverty. About half of adult workers who are living in poverty are employed full time.
