Hi John,
On two occasions last week (28th and 29th of July) Sky News
broadcast a Reform UK press conference live from their new 'briefing
room' - effectively a TV studio of its own.
They didn't use their own camera crew, they just
broadcast the livestream provided by the party -
which resulted in a bizarre situation where Sky News’s own footage of
a Minister was being broadcast back to the TV channel - independently
of the producers - and overlaid with commentary from a political
party’s Chair interviewing that same party’s Leader.
We knew that this couldn't stand. So we mobilised Best for
Britain supporters, like you, and over 6,000 of you sent a complaint
to their viewer relations team.
The Result?
Yesterday Reform UK held yet another
press conference, on the same
topic.
But, while Sky News did cover the
press conference, there were some notable differences in
how they
covered it:
- They
used their own camera feed - retaining control of the broadcast, and
minimising visibility of the party messaging built into the new
studio
- They did
not air the whole conference - just the opening remarks and then
questions from accredited journalists
- They
then aired the response to the claims from a Government
minister
This was definitely welcome
progress, and it might just be thanks to the 6000 Best
for Britain supporters who wrote in - as well as every one of you who supports our work.
You make a difference
It may be a small win, but this
effort proves how valuable your support is.
Campaigning is expensive. Emails,
digital ads, polling, face-to-face meetings and much more - it all
adds up. But so do your
donations.
