Team, I wish I was writing to you today under different circumstances. In fact, I wish I didn’t have to send this email at all.

But here we are: as I’m sure you saw, Governor Greg Abbott threatened to arrest Democratic members of the House who fled the state to block the TX House GOP from having a quorum to force Donald Trump’s fascist, racist, and illegal congressional maps on Texans.

These Democratic House members are our colleagues and friends. They are heroes of democracy right now. And they are under threat simply because they stood up and left the state, rather than let Republicans silence your vote and steal your power.

And this time, it’s not just Abbott making empty threats.

This time, Donald Trump is waiting in the wings — with a far-right Supreme Court, a MAGA-controlled Congress, and a party that has no intention of relinquishing power.

I’ve been in close contact with our friend, Governor JB Pritzker, all week and even before our House members fled to his state. Not only has he been a valuable ally by providing our House Dems logistical support and a place to stay and organize, he’s also been a source of comfort and wisdom to me and our team.

Donald Trump is laying the groundwork to have unchecked power, and Greg Abbott is helping him do it.

Not all hope is lost, however. This is not out of my hands, and it’s certainly not out of your hands.

We are all central to this moment. Our Party is supporting the House members who made the impossible decision to flee their home and families for the sake of democracy. We’re planning rapid response outreach. We’re preparing legal and logistical support. We’re doing everything we can to hold the line.
