Dear john,
Members of Congress and other public officials should be banned from buying and selling stocks. Period.
In the past, Trump has previously said he would sign legislation into law codifying this.
Yet the White House has reportedly begun to lobby against the latest Republican proposal, according to Punchbowl News, Axios, and other news outlets. This legislation would put new restrictions on the trading of stocks by members of Congress, the president and the vice president.
In direct response to the White House's complaints, the bill's author Senator Josh Hawley, said the ban would only be implemented when a new term starts for the covered officeholder. This means the ban on the executive branch would start in 2029, after Trump would be gone from office.
