These are no ordinary times, team. I believe elected leaders should work to create safety, prosperity and opportunity for every American. Republicans in Washington don’t seem to share that sense of duty.
When I look at what’s happening in Washington now, lawmakers are tearing down our middle class to put even more money in billionaires’ pockets. They’re cutting critical jobs at agencies that help keep our country running. Not even our National Parks or Weather Service are safe.
They’re punching down — attacking the most vulnerable among us — to make themselves seem strong. Something has to give.
There’s another path. When I was Governor of North Carolina, we expanded Medicaid. We passed pay raises for public school teachers and we built a strong economy by investing in clean energy and investing in our people.
