In a move that has stunned climate scientists, the Trump Administration just announced it’s shutting down climate research in Antarctica.
This isn’t just another budget cut. This is the backbone of critical long-term climate research. Without it, 60 years of uninterrupted American science in Antarctica will come to an end — and with it, data we can never get back.
We’ve seen what happens when MAGA Republicans start firing scientists and dismantling environmental programs. The damage is permanent. Years — sometimes decades — of research just vanish. Studies are halted mid-stream. Data sets are deleted. Monitoring is silenced. Even if we win back power, we can’t rewind the clock and recover what’s been lost.
