Republicans love to talk about “facts over feelings”, but then they tantrum every time they hear a fact they don’t like. And Trump takes it to an extreme:
Deleting climate change reports. Detaining students for writing op-eds. Defunding or suing broadcasters and talk show hosts.
Trump’s latest anti-truth rampage came last week, when he fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) after they released jobs data that he didn’t like.
This is very dangerous. The BLS is a fact-finding agency that reports about market conditions and the labor force. That’s pretty important, especially when the president has been hurtling our economy into a recession since he took office.
But after BLS published disappointing job numbers on Friday, Trump called the report “rigged”, claimed the numbers were politically motivated, and fired the BLS commissioner.
Trump thinks that if the head of the BLS or if I share something factual about his economy, he can just attack the messenger and the truth will go away. He thinks he can bend reality and tell a different story that everyone will just believe.
Sorry Donald, but that’s not happening.
I’ll never stop speaking truth to power, no matter how many deranged Truths the president wants to post about me. Trump thinks he can run the country like a wannabe dictator, but I won’t back down. Say you’re with me in this fight by making a donation of any amount today.
Thanks for being a part of this,
Elizabeth
