August 4, 2025

Dear Georgian,

We are back in Georgia's Eighth District for our district work period and last week, we made sure to hit the ground running with several great events across the district. From meeting with industry associations to celebrating our true community servant leaders, my time throughout South and Middle Georgia always reminds me of the great people I have the honor of serving.

August Recess has only just begun and I am looking forward to spending more time with you as we continue this district work period.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,

Honoring Nell Roquemore at the Lakeland Post Office Renaming Ceremony

Last week, we gathered together to celebrate the life and legacy of Nell Roquemore with the Lakeland Post Office Renaming Ceremony.

Nell Roquemore was a model public servant and an active member of the community. Her unwavering commitment to the people of Lanier County was evident in her involvement in numerous local initiatives and organizations. Renaming the post office in her honor is a small way to commemorate her legacy in Lakeland. She served as the Lakeland Postmaster, Mayor Pro Tempore of Lakeland, secretary to Generals at Moody Air Force Base, and was a local schoolteacher.

She was also the President of The Lanier County Garden Club and served as Co-Chair of Let's Improve Lanier's Appearance (LILA). Her dedication to LILA evolved into a lifelong initiative, including establishing the Milltown Murals project, for which Lakeland was proclaimed "Georgia's Historic Mural City" by her friend and former Governor, Sonny Perdue. Nell Roquemore left a legacy of service and selflessness, and this post office will serve as a great way for us to honor, and remember, her life.

It was an honor to introduce the legislation to rename our Lakeland post office after Mrs. Nell and I want to thank all who had a role in turning this into a reality.

Delivering wins to Georgia's Foresters

I also had the privilege of speaking to the Georgia Forestry Association, last week, about the many wins that we have secured in Congress that will impact forestry directly.

The One Big, Beautiful Bill included support for the forestry industry and business including increased Section 179 expensing, changes to the Estate Tax, and energy related tax credits with direct forestry implications.

With agriculture as Georgia’s number one industry across our state and across our district, I am proud to say that this legislation included the largest investment in our farm economy since 2002.

Supporting Leadership at Moody AFB

I was honored to attend the Change of Command at Moody Air Force Base last week.

Colonel Paul E. Sheets relinquished command of the 23rd Wing to Colonel Sean P. Hall.

We are grateful for Colonel Sheets' leadership during his command of the 23rd Wing and we are excited to have Colonel Hall take over and continue the legacy of great leadership.
