It’s official: Texas House Democrats have left the state to break quorum and block Donald Trump and Greg Abbott from rigging Texas’s congressional maps.

Trump is attempting to steal FIVE congressional seats in Texas by gerrymandering our state’s maps – including drawing me out of my own district. This is Trump’s blatant attempt to rig the midterms to keep Republicans in power.

But as long as Texas Democrats deny the legislature a quorum, they are unable to pass legislation.

Friend, when I was in the Texas Legislature, we broke quorum in 2003 over partisan gerrymandering.

It’s an incredibly difficult decision – and may lead to financial or legal consequences for those who leave. But with so much at stake for our democracy, I’m thankful to Texas House Democrats for acting boldly to block Trump and Abbott’s power grab.
