Yesterday, Texas Democrats made the brave decision to leave the state to deny Republicans the quorum they need to ram through their radical redistricting plan.
They are doing this to stop Donald Trump and Greg Abbott’s power grab that would rig the system, steal five Democratic-held Congressional seats, and determine who has the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Breaking quorum is the most powerful tool these lawmakers have. It means staying out of the state for as long as it takes. It means risking arrest. But they’re doing it anyway – because this is what fighting for our democracy looks like.
Now, Greg Abbott is threatening to remove these legislators from office. And Ken Paxton is saying they should be hunted down because they are standing up for the people of Texas.
The stakes are getting higher by the day. But people across the country are stepping up because we all have to do our part in this fight.
